At Oklahoma City, Cook (Australia), and Babe Hunt, fought a draw, in a ten round heavy-weight boxing match. FAIRHALL DEFEATS PURDY. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received August 24, 12.24 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 23. At Leichhardt Stadium to-night, in a fifteen rounds contest, Tommy Fairhall (10.0,1 outpointed Charlie Purdy (10.5of New Zealand, after a hard gruelling contest, in which the New Zealander fought gamely. Fairhall opened more confidently than Purdy and landed many blows over Purdy’s heart. He had him groggy in the fifth round. Purdy re ceived plenty of punishment right through, but occasionally Purdy, who was mostly on the defensive, rallied and connected with his opponent’s chin and nose. Purdy’s eye was cut and his nose was bleeding early in the contest. Some of Purdy’s straight lefts deiighted the crowd, and he had a large following.
