TIMARU, AUGUST 20. (Before Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M.) By-Law Cases. Failure to keep to the left at an intersection, while driving a motorcar, resulted in an order to pay 107costs, for lan Patrick. Patrick was also fined 10/- and costs for driving without a license. For having permitted Francis Thomas Harlwich to drive a motorlorry without having obtained a heavy traffic license, Henry Lister (Mr W. D. Campbell) was convicted and fined 20/- and costs. For having driven a motor-’bus without a heavy traffic, license, Lister was fined 10/- and costs, and on a charge of driving an unlicensed motorcar, he was convicted and ordered to pay costs. Alex. Dewar was fined 20/- and costs for having allowed George Dewar to drive a motor-lorry without having a heavy traffic license. Thomas Murray and Steven Thoms, for cycling at night without lights, were each fined 10/- and costs. For driving motor-cars in a manner dangerous to the public, John Blue and John Albert Peattie were each fined £1 and costs. David Stewart, on a charge of cycling past a stationary omnibus on the wrong side, in a manner dangerous to those alighting from the ’bus, was convicted and ordered to pay costs 10/-. For riding a motor-cycle, and not being in possession of a license, Thomas Mitten was fined 20/- and costs. Liquor in Restaurant. Henry Maxwell, known as Hardie Meredith, was charged with consuming liquor in a restaurant at a time when licensed premises were required to be closed. Meredith, who did not appear, was fined £1 and costs.
