PYNE, GOULD, GUINNESS, LTD. pYNE, GOULD, GUINN, T JBB, LTD. ADDINGTON MARKET REPORT. ■yVEDNESDAY, 21st AUGUST, 1929. STORE SHEEP AND BEEP EASIER. FAT SHEEP SELL WELL. Store Sheep.—There was a fair-sized entry, consisting chiefly of ewes, with an odd pen of ewe hoggets and wethers. The demand was very slack tor all except well-conditioned, soundmouthed ewes, and these were also easier than at recent sales. A pen of good 4-tooth Corriedale ewes heavy in lamb were passed at 38/-. Decentconditioned 4, 6 and 8-tooth ewes made from 27/- to 35 -. but low-conditioned sheep were not wanted, and there were numerous passings. We sold a line of 150 three-quarted-bred ewe hoggets at 13/6. Fat Sheep.—There was a fairly heavy entry of 13 races, with quality considerably below that at the double market a fortnight ago. The sale, however, was a keen one, with prices much on a par with those of recent sales. Amongst our principal sales were the following:—Wethers, on account of Mr P. A. Elworthy, Gordon's Valley, 56 at up to 44 10; account Mr A. S. Elworthy, Holme Station, 55 up to 44/10; account a client, 20 at 49/1; <.-:cwunt Mr Fred Crump, Springston, up to 47/1; account Mr Richard Bethell, Timpendean, 50 up to 43/7; account Mr Guyon Macdonald, Orari, 60 up to 43/10; account Mr D. McKendry, Lyndhurst, 50 to 41/7; account Mr Bruce Murray, ex Hinds, 60 up to 38/1; account Milliken’s Estate, Springfield, 60 to 37/10. We also sold on j account of Mr Donald Gillanders, Darfield, a truck of fat ewes up to 39/4, and on account of Mr H. Muckle, Dorie, hoggets to 43/10. Fat Cattle.—There was a mediumsized entry of 450 head, of which Pyne, Gould. Guinness, Ltd., sold 138. The market was inclined to be irregular, and as a whole was down about 10/- to 55/- per head on the Grand National sale. Our principal sales were as follows:—Account Mr J. McPherson. Cheviot, 8- steers at up to £2O/12/6; Mr D. G. Macfarlane, Rafa Downs, 10 steers to £2O/7/6, 4 heifers to £l4/7/6. and 1 cow at £l3/10/-; Mr A. Helps, Akaroa, 3 steers to £2O/2/6, 2 heifers to £ls/7/6; Mr R. Gould, The Hermitage. 8 steers to £lB/2/6, 1 cow at £l2/2/6; Mr Walter Parkinson. Kaituna. 7 heifers to £lB/7/6; Mr C. Wilson, Wanganui, 16 cows to £ls/17/6; Mr J. Forbes, Wanganui, 4 cows to £l6/17/6, 2 heifers to £l6/2/6; Mr H. M. Speed. Wanganui, 9 steers to £lB/2/6, 15 cows to £l4/7/6. Extra ! prime medium-weight steer and heifer | beef was making up to 50/- per 1001 b, I with prime heavy steer beef realising j 42/6 to 47/6. There was not a large | offering of really prime steers, a fair j proportion of the entry being rather ■ poorly finished. We quote the following range of values:—Extra prime steers to £24/17/6, prime steers £l9/10/to £22, medium steers £l6 to £lB/10/-, light steers £l2 to £ls/10/-; extra prime heifers to £lB/10/6, prime heifers £l3 to £l6; extra prime cows to £lO/2/6, prime cows £l2 to £ls. Store Cattle.—There was a larger entry, consisting chiefly of cows, with a few lines of decent steers. There was a very keen demand throughout, good 3-year-old steers making to £l2/10/-, best cows to £B/4/-, medium cows £5 to £7; 2-year-old heifers to £7/10/-. Dairy Cattle.—There was an exceptionally heavy entry of over 150 head. This caused a considerable easing in values, amounting to practically £2 a head for all classes. The top price for the day was £l4, for a third-calver; with springing heifers averaging about £lO. Vealers.—A small entry met with a very keen sale, Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., securing top price at £9/3/6. Fat Pigs.—The pork sale was on a par with that of last week, though competition was inclined to be erratic. There was a small market of baconers. and these showed sdme improvement on recent rates. Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., secured top price to-day, getting £7 each for two exceptionally fine choppers. Store Pigs.—There was a small market, and as has been the tendency of late, there was a sharp rise in prices. There seems every prospect of breeders of pigs securing more favourable prices in the future than in recent years.
