The secretary of the Associated Chambers of Commerce forwarded a circular received from the Wheat Industry Committee, and asked the Chamber to communicate direct with the Clerk of the Committee should it desire to tender evidence. The chairman said that the Committee had already commenced to take evidence, and as the Christchurch people were so thoroughly organised, he did not think it would be advisable to step in. It was decided to thank the Committee for its Invitation. 1928 COMMITTEE. The secretary reported that, as directed by the Council, he had convened a public meeting, which was held on August 5, to consider the formation of a sub-branch of the 1928 Committee. The special committee set up to consider the letter of the Te Awamutu Chamber with regard to the duplication of Government regulations and inspections, reported that it had been decided to obtain expressions of opinion from representative business people, and, with this in view, a letter, setting out the substance of the matter, had been sent to twenty-five firms and companies, with a request that they furnish particulars of duplication or unnecessary returns, etc., and stating I that members of the committee would be pleased to discuss the subject personally if desired. The only suggestion received and considered by the committee was in relation to the monthly return of wholesale prices of agricultural produce. This return was required to be furnished by every merchant, and it was submitted that one return compiled by the secretary of the Grain and Produce Merchants’ Association in each centre should be sufficient. On the broad question of company returns and factory inspections, the Committee had no recommendations to make. The report was adopted. ( PUBLICITY COMMITTEE. The Publicity Committee reported 1 that the West End Association had decided to affiliate with the Chamber, and formal nomination for membership would be made to the Council. Mi E. Howden and Mr H.
