In spite of the absence of the King and Queen, and the omission of the Royal drive up the

, course (writes a Londoner), the attendance was as great as ever. The Prince of Wales, Princess Mary Viscountess Lascelles, and Viscount Lascelles, Princess Arthur of Connaught, Lady Maud Carnegie and her husband and Princess Ingrid of Sweden, about whom such interesting rumours are circulating, were in the Royal box most days. The Royal ladies showed a variety of colours and in hats. Printed chiffon had Royal votaries on the first and second days. Princess Mary wore pale green and white patterned chiffon on the first days, and Princess Ingrid of Sweden, who spent much of her afternoon with the Prince of Wales, had a lovely frock of pale harebell blue patterned in a conventional design in pink and a darker blue. She wore a dipping hat in blue baku which had a cluster of flowers in pink and blue at one side. Her stockings were the new fishnet beige, and were worn with satin court shoes to match. She was the loveliest girl there with her modest, dark beauty and soft dark eyes that she inherits from her mother, Princess Margaret, the late Crown Princess of Sweden. On the second day she wore a floating dress of palest rose pink chiffon and a sapphire blue hat. The Duchess of York was the only Royal lady on the first day who did not wear a printed frock. She came in pink chiffon billowing in layers on layers and dipping very slightly at the back; her hat was one of her favourite shapes in pink crinoline straw. Princess Arthur did not come on the first day, but appeared on the second in a dress of navy blue and rose-spotted crepe de chine worn with a deep Blue hat with a wide side brim. While the flowered dresses were in the majority the first day, a good many lace frocks appeared on the following days, and also a certain number of plain chiffon and georgette, and some of the new voiles in chiffon texture.
