THE WEATHER. The fine, warm weather, which was experienced during the past week, gave way on Tuesday to rain, which began to fall early in the evening, and continued throughout the night and Wednesday morning, 55 points being registered to 9 a.m. yesterday. A cold, south-west breeze prevailed yesterday, and lowered the temperature, the thermometer at noon registering 38 degrees, and there seemed every probability of a continuance of the r^in. HOCKEY. The following will represent Geraldine District High School in the annual five-a-side tournament at Geraldine on August 29: — Senior: —Morrison, Brooke, D. Callanan, Bethune, Bowkett. Junior will be chosen from the following :—McShane, S. Callanan, Matron, G. Webb, J. Buckley, E. Woods. FOOTBALL. Mr and Mrs Bright, of Geraldine, who were the guests of Mrs Weaver, Woodbury, have returned to Geraldine. NOTES. The benedicts of Orari will hold a ball in the Orari Hall next Friday. STOCK SALE.

The fortnightly stock sale was held , at the Geraldine saleyards on Wednesday. There was a small offering, and the attendance was only fair. There was a large attendance last week at the Presbyterian Bible Class social, those present including visitors from Geraldine. Items were given by Misses Flatman, Sherratt, Williamson, Webb, Moncur, Markham, Hooper, and Mr T. W. Markham, and competitions were won by Misses Vincent, Sherratt, Bell, Williamson, Boutherway, Ellis and Messrs Fraser and D. Fifield. The serving of supper terminated a most pleasant evening. GERALDINE PICTURES. The brilliant First National picture, “God’s Clay,” will be shown at the Municipal Theatre to-night, and ali should make a point of seeing this fine example of British production. The story is the history of a young fellow who meets with disaster on his wedding day. On the honeymoon journey the car is involved in a smash, and the bride is seriously injured, resulting in paralysis. The accident occurs nej.r the home of Angela, a society girl, who nurses her. Angela is attracted by the young fellow, who reciprocates the affection. When the invalid is transferred to Cornwall, the two part, one to return to his business duties, the other to run a club in connection with the factory owned by the man. The secretary of the club is a rogue, who commences flirtation with one of the girls. He later proposes to the society girl, who, hearing of his misdeeds, discharges him. He follows the girl to Cornwall, to blackmail her, and the factory lass trails him there. The man is killed. The two girls manage to dispose of the body so that the verdict is brought in accidental death. There will be a full supporting programme.
