The authorities are leaving nothing to chance to meet Thursday’s Communist demonstrations. Paris is mustering 22,000 police and troops in the city, who are guarding all public buildings, monuments, factories and crossroads. PITCHED BATTLE WITH REDS. POLICE LAY SIEGE TO HOTEL. As a precaution against the Communist rising, which is being planned throughout Europe for August 1, the police surrounded a secret meeting of Reds in a hotel in the village of Samobor (Jugoslavia). The order to surrender was met with a stream of bullets, and in a fierce fight three Communists were killed and three wounded. Several police were wounded. In connection with the Riga announcement that the Soviet has ordered a great revolutionary battle review throughout the world on August 1, an amazing letter to Bolshevik agents has been received in Australia ordering Communists to do all possible to embarrass the Government without openly opposing it, to weaken the Army and corrupt reservists and wounded pensioners, and to destroy the institutions of the bourgeois class.
