THAT COLLECTION BOX.

To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald. *’ Sir.—Mr Gordon Wood appears to be somewhat upset because a collection box was passed along at the Labour Party’s meeting on Thursday evening last. Surely Mr Wood must know quite well that any money collected at the meeting in question would not be for Mr Carr’s benefit, any more than the money, Mr Wood, as president of the Cricket Association, assists in collecting when he passes along the box at the cricket matches in the Park is for Mr Wood’s benefit. In the latter case, the fact that a visitor is liable to be asked to contribute is not advertised, and the function takes place in a public place, while in the case of the Labour Party’s meeting, the opposite obtains. Class prejudice blinds all at times, I fear.—l am, etc., CRICKET. Timaru, June 14.
