THAT NAUGHTY PUFF.
QUEEN MARY’S CIGARETTE. Should women smoke? Most city people will politely stifle a little yawn ancl ask, “Why on earth shouldn’t they?” The question is as dead as the news of 19 24. The argument that a woman smokes merely for effect, and not because she enjoys it is also a threadbare and dishonoured conversational outcast. The woman smoker has come to stay because women enjoy smoking. Princess Mary’s recent silent rebuke when offered a cigarette at a public gathering cannot be interpreted as meaning her disapproval of smoking in general, for Queen Mary herself enjoys an after dinner puff, say those who have been entertained privately by the King and Queen. The Princess was probably tilting at smoking in public.
