Mr H. L. Tapley, of Dunedin, was a passenger by the first express south yesterday. The many friends of Mr Harry W r agstaff will be glad to know that he has made a good recovery from the effects of his recent accident. Mr and Mrs Wagstaff have returned to Timaru. Mr S. H. Harrow (president of the South Canterbury Master Printers’ Association), who attended the annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Master Printers’ Associations, held in Auckland this week, returned to Timaru yesterday. Mr R. Watson Rome, trade assistant to the general manager of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, Liverpool, was in Timaru yesterday. Mr Rome is at present on a tour of New Zealand in an endeavour to foster direct shipping between New Zealand and the West of England ports. Mr Sampson Handley, the eminent English surgeon, accompanied by his wife, paid a visit to Timaru yesterday, on their return from Mount Cook, and during the afternoon were interested visitors at the Timaru Floral Society’s show. Mr Handley was the delegate from the British Medichl Association to the conference held by the New Zealand branch in Wellington last week. He proceeded north later in the afternoon, en route to Wellington, where he will take part in a conference to discuss cancer, a disease in which he has specialised.
