WORLD COAL PROBLEM

INQUIRY AT GENEVA. (Uuftsd Press Association—By Eiectru TaJeeranh —Oopyrichv.l GENEVA, February 28. Mr A. J. Cook and Mr Herbert Smith (of the British Miners’ Federation) are here in connection with the League’s inquiry into the world coal problem, conducted by a committee of the Economic Council. Professor Tawnay, from the School of Economics, London, yesterday made a statement on the situation in Britain. He dwelt on the subject of unemployment. Labourites, who are giving evidence, have been chosen by the International Labour Office as technical experts, not as representatives of labour interests. Similarly the owners have already been consulted. In the meantime the International Miners’ Federation is urging a seneme of a permanent International organisation to deal with coal production, consumption, and marketing, and to in-, elude representatives of the Governments, workers, employers and consumers.
