ALLEGED THEFT OF TREES. By Telecrnpb—Pre*s Association. ELTHAM, February 20. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, George Espiner, of Rowan, was charged with the theft of trees valued at £3O, from tho Egmont National Reserve. He was fined £2O. and ordered to make restitution, £ls to the Park Board, with' costs £6 1.95; in default two months’ imprisonment. Security for appeal was fixed at £ls 15s. CLAIM FOR £IOOO. . # By Telezrnph—Press Association. GREYMOUTH, February 26. At the Magistrate’s Court, O. G. McAlpiue, and the MoAlpine Savumilling Company, of Mawheraiti-,- claimed £IOOO from William Clayton, a farmer, at Ahaura, for general damages, in that defendant’s servant, one Mundy, carelessly and negligently lit fires on defendant’s property, which fires burned and destroyed certain bush lands tbo property of the State, and spread to and destroyed 120 chains of plaintiffs’ tramway line.
After hearing numerous witnesses, S.M., non-suited plaintiffs, ordering them to pay costs. '
