OBITUARY.

A PIONEER PASSES. By Telegraph - Association. GISBORNE, Feb. 26. The death occurred this morning of Mr Ewen Cameron (89), a pioneer setler of Poverty Bay. He came here with bullock drays while in the employ of Sir Donald McLean. He was born in Inverness, Scotland, and came to New Zealand in 1860. He was engaged fighting the Maori rebels in the Waikato during his early years. He settled in Poverty Bay in 1870, and lived 55 years on one\ property, at Brisbane, for the title of which ho fought the Maori claimants for 25 years. He was a noted judge of stock, an enthusiastic member of tho A. and P. Society, and his shared enthusiasm for Caledonian Associations and ploughing matches in his earlier days. He leaves a widow, seven sons and two daughters.
