The English cricket team began a match against southern districts today at Goulburn. The local side won the toss and sent the Englishmen to the wickets in fine weather. England in the first innings made 250 (Hobbs 54, Ames 94, Tyldesley 33) Jnrdine and Hendren Avent cheaply. Lnmpe took 5 for 46, Tickner 3 for 48. Southern districts in the first innings have lost 3 wickets for 57. SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. QUEENSLAND v. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. (United Press Association —Bjr Kleclrf# Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received February 25, 11.50 p.m.) BRISBANE, February 25. In tho Sheffield Shield match South Australia in their second innings scored 183 (Whiefield 65, McKay 40). Hornibrook took 5 wickets for 60, Oxenham 4 for 43, Notliling 1 for 22. Queensland in their second innings j scored 80 for four Avickets (O’Connor 19) when stumps Avere draAvn. Wall was again deadly with the ball. Queensland in their first innings made 188, and South Australia replied with 185.
