DISTRESSING FATALITY
MOTOR-CYCLE ABLAZE AFTER COLLISION. RIDER SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. By Tel«*raph —Pr*«* AimUtlw. CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. George Jonathan Pine (19) died in Christchurch Hospital at noon today as a result of terrible injuries received in a collision between a motor-cycle he was riding and a motor-truck on Riccarton Road this morning. Pine was riding on a piece ot bitumen paved road, and was facing the rays of the morning sun. As he was passing Mr W. J. Bowman’s yard, a motor-truck driven by R. Giles, came out on to the road. The motor-cycle hit the truck with a terrific crash. The petrol tank of the cycle burst, and the petrol fired, enveloping Pine, his motor-cycle, and the bonnet of the truck in flames.
Pine was dragged from the burning truck, with his clothing afire, and terribly burned. Ho was rushed to the hospital, but he lived only a few hours.
A chemical extinguisher was effective in saving the truck from complete destruction. Pino was a son of the well-known horße trainer, Mr G. J. Pine.
