AIANAGEMENT COMAIITTEE. The Management Committee of the South Canterbury Rugby Union held its weekly meeting last night. Present. —Ale.ssrs H. H. Fraser (president), W. Watson, G. Fail-brother, D. Hertnon, J. Wilson, W. Cumming, D. O’Connor, and Dr Fea. Replying to a let-tor from the Union, regarding liability in the event of a .player being scalded while using the hot showers on Fraser Pork, Alessrs Tripp and Rolleston wrote stating that the Union would not be liable in the event of injury. Players using the conveniences must, or should be aware of the danger in connection therewith, and could not claim against the Union for any injury which would, in effect, be duo to their own carelessness. No harm would be done, however, by erecting a notice warning players to guard themselves against scalding. This would put the Union’s position beyond all doubt. It was decided to erect warning notices in the dressing rooms and in the shower rooms. The secretary of the Waihi Club wrote ijcknowdedging-receipt of the new rules governing this season’s competitions, and asked how a club stood if its senior team was not available on a Saturday, due to sickness or any other incident. If they were unable to notify the Union by the Thursday, as stipulated, had they to play short, or piomot-e a lower grade player at the risk of losing the game? The letter also asked howl town teams fared for passes when playing in the country. The secretary explained that there had been no alteration in the rule regarding notification of a. team’s inability to take the field on a given date.

The Town Clerk wrote stating that a conference to allocate playing areas for the season would be held on Alay 2, nnd asking the Union to appoint two representatives to attend The secretary and Air Cumming were appointed to attend the conference. _ .

The Principal of the Timaru Technical School (Air A. AlcFadven) wrote making application for affiliation with the Union for one fifth grade team. The chairman said that the rule governing such application was that new clubs applying for affiliation should enter the junior grade, but in this instance he thought the application should be accepted, for it was evident that the school was anxious to enter the Union’s competition. Air Wilson said that he thought most of the boys would find games widli other dubs, some of VT hom were finding it difficult to fill their fifth grade teams.

Dr Fea said that the school was' in the same position as the High School, and lie considered ;he application should bo viewed favourably. The chairman said that the application would have to go beforo a general meeting of delegates, who would probably adopt the Union’s recommendation. A further reading of the rules disclosed that the Committee had power to deal with the matter, the actual rule stating that one black .hall in three would constitute rejection. / A vote was then taken, and the application was lost, the voting being six for and three against. Dr Fea: “Well, you are taking a very retrograde step. It is very seldom that, the application of a school is turned down.” . - Air Wilson: “I have given my . reason. The formation of this team- will probably take away players from other teams.” The secretary of the South Canterbury State Primary School Sports Association wrote asking for permission to hold its annual seven-a-side football and. six-a-side basket hall tournament either on August 4 or 'August 1.1. ~ , Tt was decided to hold the matter over meantime. . - The secretary stated that he had written to the following clubs, notifying the regrading of players as follows: Star Club : From junior to senior: W.
