(From Our Own Correspondent). CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 10. BUTTER AND CHEESE. Merchants who handle grocery lines anticipate that the price of new season’s cheese will he higher thaii the present price. The opinion is based on the fact that the London market for cheese is very firm, and that during the incoming season cheese for export will command a higher price than it did last season. Tiie first of the new season’s cheese will probably he coming to hand next month. The London market for butter is also good, and present indications are that lower prices are very unlikely. NEW SOUTH WALES PREMIER. Mr Thomas Rainsford Bavin, who will succeed Mr Laug as Premier of N.S Wales, was born at Kaiapoi on May 5, 1874, being a son of the Rev. Rainsford Bavin. He left Kaiapoi at an early age, and was educated at Auckland Grammar School, Newington College (Sydney), and Sydney University. He was called to the Bar in 1597, and was acting Professor of Law in the University of Tasmania in 190 0. From 19 01 to 1904 he was secretary to the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales as member for Gordon iu 1917. Mr Bavin holds the rank of Lieut.-Commandei in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve. In 1917 and 1918 he served on the staff of the captain in charge of naval establishments at Sydney. He was appointed to succeed Sir Geo. Fuller as leader of the Nationalist Party in New South W ales after the defeat of the Fuller Government at the election in 19 25. THE WEATHER. The weather has been on its - best behaviour for the past, week, with warm spring days. Rain would be appreciated in country districts to help the early growth along.
