POWER BOARD POLES.
HIGH RAILAGE COST. (Special to the “Herald.”) WELLINGTON, October 10. In the House to-night, Mr T. D. Burnett gave notice to ask the Minister of Railways whether his attention has been drawn to the fact, as stated in the “Timaru Herald,” of Bth October, that it costs the South Canterbury Power Board 11/- per pole to have its power line poles delivered by rail along the Fairlie branch line; that the Board has now decided to have all its poles delivered by pri-vately-owned lorries, sinjply because it is cheaper to do so; and that this course would have been followed by the Board from the outset only for the restrictions on heavy traffic during the winter months. Also will the Minister give instructions to have the matter inquired into, so that the people’3 railway will be used for the people and by the people.
