AERIAL DEFENCE.
FRANCE’S BIG BUDGET. By C»bl»--P»efi< *»»od»tlon- —Copyrl*h». Au»tr»])»i. »n«i N.Z. Cnbl. A»«oci»tiot». LONDON, October 7. The. Paris correspondent of “The Times” says the Budget estimates for the Department of Aeronautics reveal that the Government is asking Parliament to sanction - an aviation programme involving an expenditure ot £1,130,009 yearly for ten years. Half this amount represents subsidies to ■ commercial companies, hitherto • renewed annually. It is pointed out that the new. arrangement will enable companies to plan to place future orders with less fear of risk. The programme is unlikely to arouse 1 much opposition, as it is realised that a better planned and mole liberal policy is necessary to keep French commercial aviation in the front rank among the aerial Powers. The public generally are greatly alarmed to find that French companies have not got the best machines for commercial aviation, and that they are being beaten wherever competing with English, German and Dutch rivals.
