WARATAHS WIN AGAIN. Bp Cabl*—Press Association —Copyrlebt. Auitralian and N.Z. Cablo ■ A»*ociation. (Received Oct. 9th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 8. The Waratahs. defeated YorkshireCumberland team by 9 points to ,3 —a penalty goal and two tries, to one try. Ten thousand watched a dull game, and it was considered the Waratahs were fortunate to be leading at the interval, as the result of an unconverted try by Egan. The handling left much to be desired, while the heavier forwards were seldom seen to advantage in the scrum. In the second spell the country team made desperate rallies, but to no purpose. Gordon broke away and scored a try which was not converted. This was followed by a penalty goal by Lawton. Near the end, Badger scored a try for the counties. A feature of the match, which was singularly devoid of open play, was the lengthy kicking, which the Waratahs exploited with success. Their play did not contain any thrills, but their opponents’ movement rarely developed owing to deadly tackling of tho Waratahs. The full back Ross was brilliant, while the threequarters (King and Egan) were outstanding and Lawton excelled at five-eighth, receiving splendid support from Meagher. The counties team were outclassed in every department, except the forwards.
