ENGINE: , . . , The engine fitted to this machine is o! the single-cylinder overhead valve type. The valves are inclined at 90 degrees and are made of a special unbreakable alloy steel which retains its mechanical properties at high temperatures. These are fitted with duplex springs. Grease gun lubrication for the rocker bearing is provided. Two aluminium-alloy pistons are supplied with each machine. One of these is a medium-compression type for touring, while the other is a high-compres-sion piston for speed work. A special Lucas racing magneto is fitted. LUBRICATING SYSTEM : A very thorough sump lubrication system is provided on this engine. Forced lubrication to the big end is by a very thorough mechanical oil pump. After lubricating the big end the oil reaches the other parts of the engine by splash. A special indicator is fitted to the side o! the crank case to show the rider that i,>« pump working, and an oil icvii indicator consisting of a float to which a spindle is attached is fitted to the sump A special oiling device for the front chain consists of a small reservoir formed on the inner near-side crankcase wall. FRAME : „ A duplex frame of great strength and rigidity is used. The engine is inclined forwards in the frame and an exceedingly low saddle position is obtained. GEARBOX : Special high-grade alloy steels are used for the gears. Gear-changing is remarkably simple, as the changes are effected by means of hardened dogs, the gears always remaining in mesh. BRAXES : Internal expanding brakes 7 inches m diameter are fitted to each wheel. The shoes are of pressed steel, Both brakes are readily adjustable and weor is reduced to a minimum.
