A CAKE HINT.
When a. level cake is required for icing, a slice has often tp be cut off the top. 'To prevent this' waste, make a liole in the middle of the raw cake mixture before putting it in the oven, raising it up round the' sides of the tin. Place the cake iri a good oven, and as the middle- rises first, the cake will have a nice, fiat surface by the. time it is cooked.
