WASHTNGTON; October fi
The first committee meeting of the Board of Officers of the International Radio Conference, named Mr Brown, vice-chairman of tha committee on tariffs.
On the world court, Count Guisepp® Greme, the Italian delegate, was appointed chairman. Other British delegates given committee appointments are; Mr A. J, Johnston (Canada) vice-chairman of the Convention Committee and Mr T. Purves (Britain), chairman of the General Regulations Committee. Judging by the conversations among delegates, tfjere seems a possibility of a coalition of British, French and German delegates to wrest control of the Conference from the now largely dominant United States delegation. Britain, it is understood, would prefer a postponement until 1930 ol tbe Brussels Conference consideration of file so-called Cortina report, in which the International Committee has advocated a reduction of the standardisation of all cede words to five letter'.
Britain believed the present ten letter word limit should remain, but. dir Hoover has moved that a special section of delegates should determine whether the Conference should act on the Cortina report, and therefore Brit ain is believed to b© preparing a counter proposal, under which she will support certain .French and German proposals in return for their help with the Cortina report.
