WOMEN CITIZENS.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of the Timaru Women Citizens’; Association was held in the Y.W.C.A. on Wednesday. The president (Mrs Kemshed) was in the chair. Apologies were received from Mesdames Hope, Morrison and Miss Schmidt.
The lion, secretary (Miss Mclver), read a letter from the secretary of the Pan-Pacific Conference, Honolulu, inviting the'Association to send a delegate to the Conference to be held in June, 1928. The letter stated that Miss Jane Adams was to be chairwoman, and that already women had enrolled from Japan, the Philippines, India, Australia, and the United States. The following subjects were to be discussed—- (1) Education (which would include home economics, art, the international language in relation ; to■ living-; progressive education and psychology; (2)' health; (3) women in industry; (4) women in government; (5) social service.
' - The- consideration of a-suitable deTegate was referred to the next committee meeting. Children’s Courts.—There was some discussion as to whether policemen attending children’s .courts should attend in uniform. The majority of the speakers were not antagonistic to tlie practice. No vote was taken,-but it was suggested a woman associate-.to one of the - children’s ncour.ts be -written- to for an opinion. . , Tlie president then introduced Mrs Mirams, who gave a short address on the life and art of .the-great Russian composer, Tschaikovslcy, illustrated With gramophone ■ records, lent by Bogg and Co. These included two •beautiful .songs “To. the Forest,” “None but the Weary Heart,” the well-known 1812 overture, and part .of the Ofh Symphony. (Pathetic), i. A vote of thanks to Mrs . Mirams was carried by acclamation.
