EVASION OF TAX.

In the House of Commons there was a long debate on the clauses of the Finance Bill dealing with tho socalled inquisitorial powers granted the Inland Revenue to deal with cases of supposed evasion -through the operation of the law relating to private companies. A number of Conservatives, including Sir Robert Horne, wero highly critical of the clauses. Mr Churchill promised a concession, whereupon the objector's withdrew their amendments. Mr Churchill, in justifying the clauses, was emphatic that they would not allow the revenue to be defrauded by fiien who had full control of companies and placed an excessive amount to reserve.
