MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
LABOUR LOSSES. By Telecrapli—Press Association. AVELLINGTON, April 29. The general effect of the municipal elections iif the city is that the Civic League returned 27 candidates out oi 33“ in addition to the Alayor. Labour lost a seat on the Council and one on the Hospital Board, and only have two representatives on each. Ihe voting was a litt'e more than half the number on the rolls. On the unimproved value issue movement had recently been made in favour of cancelling it altogether, on the ground that ail big buildings, now being freely erected, escaped paying a fair share to the rates. By 8334 to 4262, however, the vote was in favour of extending tho principle to all rates. This was a triumph for Labour.
