LABOUR MISSION IN U.S.A.

Memorable Days at Hartford. CORDIAL RELATIONS IN ' INDUSTRY. B 7 Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Australian and .N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 29, 9.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 28. The Australian Industrial Mission was given a remarkable reception at Hartford, the Mayor (Mr Norman Stevens) having invited thiee hundred manufacturers, merchants, bankers, labour leaders, and special workers to meet them. Standing in a line the introductions occupied an hour aiid a half. Representative speakers at the reception indicated the happy industrial conditions in the State of Connecticut.

Mr Fred Gauthier, president of the Labour Council, said that while the unions and employers differed in soim things, They always come together as one body on such occasions, as the visit of the delegation. Responding to the speech of welcome by the Mayor, Mr McNeill said the generosity the Mission was overwhelming. The Americans throughout the tour had ttonted them as brothers. They had become great friends, and although their visits to most cities had been brief, their farewells were quite touching. During the three days’ visit to Waterbary, and one day at Meridian, the Mission was busy inspecting numerous brass and cutlery industries. All were open shops on piece or bonus work. The majority worked lifty-five hours a week and the employees were well satisfied.
