In conversation yesterday, on the subject of wool and its alleged doteriorluion, Mr A. M. Paterson, M.R.C.V.S. &aul that the quality oJP wool is lamely determined by the breed of the animal; reeding would not altor the quality of the wool. If high quality sheep were placed on poor pastures, the wool would remain practically the same in quality, though it would become deficient in quantity. Farmers paid too little attention to the rams which they usedit they wanted good quality wool anti plonty of it, they should breed from sheep of high quality, and feed them properly. Top often in-lamb ewes were kept on insufficient or unsuitable feed, and the injury then suffered by the lamb in its pre-natal existence r-ould not afterwards be remedied. Too little attention was paid to the feeding of ewes in the winter and spring months. Because the roots "which the sheep were fed on kept them in fair condition, it was often imagined that bey wore being well fed. What was happening, was that the sheep were putting on a deposit of fat, but the whole _ system was being weakened otherwise. The two main things to correct deterioration in wool were:— (1) Hie use of sheep with high quality wool, for breeding; and (2) more care in feeding tlio eye in winter and earing. I
