VALEDICTORY.

POPULAR STATION AiASTER T'AREWELLEI). There was a large gathering of residents and friends at the Washdyko Public Hall on Wednesday evening last, the occasion living a, larewell to- Air J. McLean, who has received notice of Iranster to Wanganui, after having served eight years at Washdyke.

The function took the form of a social and presentation to Air and Airs McLean. Excellent dance music was supplied by Alessrs Slade and Pelvin. At the supper adjournment, Air Purlane took tiie chair, and after reading a number of apologies for unavoidable absence, lie referred in eulogistic terms to the manner in which Mr Alt-Lean had discharged his duties. Always courteous and obliging, and being of an unassuming nature, lie had earned the esteem and goodwill of the residents of the whole district. All who had had business to do at the railway station joined in congratulating Air AlcLean on his promotion ;ii the service, and wished him the best possible success. (Hear, hear). Air AV. AY. Divan (on behalf of tho Ploughing A.latch Committee), and Air Taylor also spoke in terms of praise, and wished Air AlcLean every success in the future. Air D. Anderson, in a very happy manner, then presented Air AlcLean with a well-filled wallet. Mr AlcLean, in replying, thanked all for the handsome present and the kind references that had been made. Ho felt that he did not altogether merit all that had been said; ho h»l only done what lie considered his duty, and was glad to know that his efforts to give satisfaction had been so highly appreciated. He extended a hearty invitation to anyone who happened to be visiting AVanganui at any time, to call at his home. Dancing was then resumed and continued till the early hours. The singing of Auld Lang Syno terminated a very enjoyable evening.
