LAND BALLOT.

CROWN LEASEHOLD FARMS. At tho Timaru Courthouse yesterday, a ballot was held for three re-valued Crown farms. The ballot was condueted by Mr W. Stewart (Commissioner of Crown Lands), assisted by Messrs E. Maedona’d and J). Stowell (members of the Laud Board). The first block put to the ballot was one consisting of 13,031 acres, situated at Pukaki West, 60 miles from Fairiie. The block was all tussock country, provkling summer grazing, and was oslimated to i:jutv about 1000 ewes and 1200 dry sheep. The property was loaded with £io3s, lor improvements, comprising dwelling, wooshed, sheep yards, dip, etc. The terms \yere 21 years, from March, 1928, with contingent right ot renewal. There were only two applicants for tho block, the successful applicant being Mr C. V . Kirke, Levels. The second block submitted was one consisting of 26! acres, 2 roods, 20 perches, being section 6,. block 1 of the Craigmore Sett'emcnt, situated 9 miles from the Cave railway station. The property was set out as being good sheep country, and produced good crops of oats, roots and green feed. The carrying capacity was about 1J sheep to tho acre. It was also loaded with £'B26 for improvements, comprising new dwelling (! rooms), stable, outbuildings, and fencing. The lease-was renewable, 33 years from July, 1927. For this b'oek there were twelve applicants, the successful one being Mr Alfred A. McTugue, of Pareora West. Block 11, section 6 of the To Ngawai Survey District, comprising 225 acre? of the Crieklcwood Settlement, situated li miles from Cifcklewood, was the third block- ballotted for. The property was we'l suited tor mixed farming, and was loaded with £650 tor improvements, comprising bouse (of _ 3 rooms), outbuildings, and fencing. The lease was renewable, 33 years, from July, 1927. Out of six applicants, the successful ono turned up m Mr John Mannix, of Maorewhenua, North Otago. There were no applicants for a block of 215 acres, Landsdown Settlement, Waimate.
