MORTON AND. CO

Messrs Morton and Co., Ltd., repor for week ended April 2nd a foiloivs:—

A very busy week was experienced in all departments. On Friday, we held a sale oi ironmonger’s -stocic for Mr E. N. Reid. 'There was a big attendance of keen buyers, and every article was satisfactorily disposed of. On Wednesday, Thursday, Frida}" and Saturday, we conducted sales of Irish linen for Mr Darcy Ford. The fine quality of the goods attracted a large number of appreciative buyers each day, and a highly .satisfactory clearance was made. A big entry of poultry was penned on Friday, and good prices were realised. Eggs were in keen demand, and prices were firm. All lines of fruit were moving froelv, and heavy consignments were handled daily. Tomatoes and pears wore too heavily supplied,*, juul prices were on tho low side, but supplies of freestone peaches and plums eased off. Nectarine's are finished for the season. Bu sine.ss in produce was brighter, tho demand on most lines being improved. Prices realised last week were as follows :

Mr _A. 11. Fenn submits the following report for week ended 2sd April :

Poultry.—Good entry: Hens, light 3s to 3s Bd, heavy 4s 6d to ss; ducks, 5s to 6s 4d per pair. —lls to 13s 6d, slips 15s to 17s.

Fowl wheat, 15s to 15s 6d; oats, 12s 6d; barley, 15s sack; potatoes, 5s to 6s ewt.; onions, 1001 b 6s. Heavy supplies of fruit.—Tomatoes, Igd to 3d lb ; pears, 2d to 2sd; cooking apples 2d, desert do. 2d to 2‘d; vegetable marrows, Id lb Fair demand for good second-hand furniture.

THE “RIALTO.”

H. Allchurch and Co. report for tho week ending -April 2nd-:—At our weekly Rialto sale on Friday we had a good entry of poultry and pigs, and prices realised were as follows: Poultry.—Hens, heavy 4s 9d to 5s 9d, otilers 3s 9d to 4-s 3d; cockerels, heavy 5s Gd to 6s, others 4s 3d to 4s 6d; roosters, 4-s to 4s Gd; ducks, 5s 6d to 7s 9d, all at per pair. A lino of pullets realised 13s, 14s and 20s pair. Turkey lions realised 7s, 9s fid and 12s 6d each. Pigs.—-Wonners, 9s and 10s each. Produce.—Wheat 18s to 20s, oats 9s to 12.5, .barley 13s, potatoes 9s to

10s per sack, bran I2s per 1201 b; bacon rolls, iOj-d to Is Id; green pens, 4d lb; marrows, 2s 6d to os doz.; honey, bulk od lb.

Fruit.—Christchurch. and Central Otago tomatoes, prime grades 2jd to 3d lb, inferior grades Id to 2d lb; apples, desert 6s to 9s a. case, cookers 4s to 6s Gd case: blackberries, 4d to 6d lb.

Eggs —Good cuppliles of eggs are coming to hand, and are meeting with a ready market, the price for the week being 2s dozen. Furniture and effects.—On Friday, we disposed of a fair quantity of furniture and effects at satisfactory prices.

Property Department.—Business in this department remains .steady.
