(From Our Own Correspondent.) HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES.
The Heavy Traffic Conference in Timaru on March tit It received intimation from tlie Ximaru .Borough Council that ■it ■would no longer act as a central authority to collect lees. It was agreed Hint each local body should collect .its own l'cos and distribute these in accordance with the mileage shown to have been travelled in each district. A few days later, a new set of regulations w asreceivod lrom "Wellington, which set out in Clause 8: “For the purpose of distributing the license fees there shall be within each heavy-traffic district one distributing authority, which shall be such one of the licensing authorities within the heavytraffic district as may be mutually agreed upon by such local authorities as aforesaid, or, in default of agreement, as may be nominated _ by a magistrate on “the application of any of those local authorities.” This will moan another gathering of local bodies to re-open the question as to who shall be the “central authority.’ COLLI H CLUB. At the last committee meeting of the Waimate Collie Club, there were present —Messrs JO. Davis (chairman), S. Kennedy, J. Bryson, A. Aubrey, P. Mcßae/ A. Mcßae, A. McKenzie and J. McKenzie. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr M. Mcßae in the death of his wife. , , , The following were elected rs a grand committee for the trials:- lhe President, a mil Messrs J. .Bryson, H Mcßae, A. McKenzie, <l. McKenzie, >S. Kennedy, A. Mcßae, A. Ramsey, O. Dixon, A. Baikie, W. Munro, A. Aubrey. It was decided that the committee should meet the day before the trials. Messrs Price Bros., \V. Boland ani W. Radclillo were appointed new memA eup was donated by Mr A. Aubrey for the winner of Class 4, lo be won twice, but not necessarily in succession. I<’or first prize in Class 3, an additional £3 was donated by Mr J. McKenzie.
