MAIN SCHOOL.

ANNUAL SPORTS. The pupils of the Tirnaru Main School spent a most enjoyable afternoon on Saturday in the school grounds, when they held their annual athletio sports. The weather was ideal for the occasion, and there was a fair attendance of parents and friends, who took a keen interest in all the events. The enthusiasm of the-pupils was very marked, every event drawing large fields; so large that in many, instances heats had to be run. The sports, which commenced at 2 o!clock, did not conclude until 5.30, and members of the staff and the school committee were kept busy throughout tlio whole of the afternoon. During a short interval, opportunity was taken by Mr G. J. Sea-ley, on behalf of the Tirnaru Floral and Horticultural Society to present the Hurdlcy Shield, which was won by the school in the recent cottage garden competition conducted by the Society. . Mr T. Hughes (ex-chairman of the Canterbury Education Board) also 6poke, congratulating the school on its success. He also referred in complimentary terms to the work done by Mr H.
