DEERSTALKING.
As this season promises io be a good one for stalkers, a few notes re treatment of skins and skulls wou.d not be out of place. : How often has a stalker returned home to find the skins no use, hair slipping and maggot infested, etc., when a little extra care and attention will obviate trouble? After the skin is off; cut as much flesh from the roots of the ears as possible, also the lips; spread out flat lii the shade, and brush on Crude carbolic acid—undiduted —and leave for 24 hours; fold the outside edges to the middle, then roll up, with hair side out, and tie up with wooden label suitably inscribed. Skins treated thus Will keep iii good condition for months. , Some, stalkers rise ilium'’in addition to crude carbolic oil extra thick skins, but the main point is to get it ou as soon es skinned. Skulls must be boiled— not too much — and. jawbones retained for moutirig. These remarks are by an experienced taxidermist, W. J.
