UNREGISTERED MEDICO.
NAME SUPPRESSED
By Teleffrauh —Press . Association. AUCKLAND, .March IS
A charge of practising medicine without a certificate of registration, was admitted in the Police Court today by an Auckland suburban doctor, whose name was ordered to be suppressed by the Magistrate (Mr W. R. McKean). Defending counsel said it was intended to plead guilty, although the offence was merely a technical one, due to negligence. Defendant had qualified at the University of Manitoba (Canada) in 1917, and subsequently served as a surgeon in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Army Medical Corps in England. He came to New Zealand in 1925, but prior to his departure, he was assured that his English registration would be recognised in the Dominion. Unfortunately a slight alteration was made by the Legislature at that time, which provided that when English registration was founded upon qualification other than that of England, it would not be recognised in New Zealand. Defendant had been ' practising constantly in the suburbs since his arrival, and had had his provisional registration renewed every three months. This lapsed, but it had now been renewed. .. . ■ .
The Magistrate said he'did not re« gard the offence as serious. In the circumstances a fine of £l, with costs, would be imposed.
