The speed guamnteed under the original super-power agreement Avas twenty words per minute each Avay, while beam ivas capable of doing in excess of 300 words both ways simultaneously.
FIXING OPENING DAY. NEGOTIATIONS PROCEEDING. By. Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, March 16. It is understood that negotiations in connection with the beam rates, are delaying the opening of the service. Some British wireless authorities anticipate a development of a new class of social traffic, betAveen England and Australia, from radiogram at special rates, which, in the past, have been by cable. There is speculation regarding the extent of the commercial use of beam, OAA r ing to the differences betxx'een British and Australian times. It is pointed out that most Australian business men have left their offices AAdien those in Britain are opening theirs, therefore, there is less necessity for a speedy exchange of messages, than in the rase of the Anglo-Canadian service.
