URY AtARKETS. WHEAT SELLING. By Telegraph—Press ARsoclat!on. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 21. is now commencing toi come forward, samples of wheat, Algerian oats, perennial ryegrass and chaff having been shown during the week, but there is too big a spread between growers’ and merchants’ ideas to lead to much business. The free selling of wheat, mentioned in the mid-week report, was continued on AA’ednesday, there bpi.ng a fairly heavy disposal to merchants at 5s 6d, on trucks. Samples of Algerians and Gnrton oats have come to hand from Ashburton. and sales of Algerians have been made at 2s 3d to 2s 4d, cm trucks. Cartons arc a particularly good sample and are quoted at 2s 7d to 2s Bd, on trucks. Merchants are shy of business at 3s 2d to 3s 3d f.0.b., s.i. The yields so far are well up to forecasts. Some excellent samples of chaff have come to hand. They arc good, bright and clean, if somewhat on the lightside. On trucks quotations are £3 5s a ton.

Perennial ryegrass was offered during the week. It was very light, ranging from 19 to 2Hhs to tho bushel. Up to 3s, on trucks, is quoted for good seed.

Blight has made is appearance very early this year in seme of the potato crops. ■ It is not of much severity so far, but may develop under the conditions prevailing; in the meantime tho hulk of tho crops are looking well. Quotations are £4 12s 6d to £4 15s f.0.b.. s.i.: Afnrch-April at £3 ss, on trucks, at which price farmers are mwt in the least hit disposed to* sell. Onions are quoted at £4 IQs, on trucks, for Maroh-April. The crops look good, but blight has made its appearance to a small extent. Peas are a shade quieter than earlv in the week, and are quoted at 6s 9d to 6s lOd, on trucks.
