Blue skies and bright sunshine favoured the commencement ot the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's provincial championship tournament, at Wilding Bark to-day. Play was confined to twelve grass courts. He-, spite the fact that they had been well watered and rolled, it was soon found that they were not conducive to very fast tennis.
