KAWARAU SCHEME.

To i.hc Editor of the “Timaru Herald.” Sir, —1 noticed in your valuable paper a Jotter from “Ay Yah” in regard to the Kawurau scheme. “Ay Yah” has discovered that the late Air White thought it impossible to dam | the waters of the Kawarau at the lake’s outlet. Modern engineers with modern ! methods have proved beyond doubt, by the recent experimental closing of tho !gates, that the dam is a concrete fact and a complete success. The results •calculated for that time of the year, , when the closing took place, have been I achieved, and given weather tondi'lions, as calculated, next- winter, the heel of the Kawarau river will be practically dry. . When the late Mr White wrote that it was impossiblo to recover gold from the bed of tho I river, 1m understood that the word impossible was merely a description for that which they then did not have the knowledge to achieve. Thirtythree. years ago it was impossible to mine the river's bed: by next winter tho “Tin Liz” gold coach will ho hardest worked “Tin Liz” in Now Zealand transporting tho gold that some of tho foremost minors have moved to be in the Kawarau riverbed.—l am, etc., NUGGET.
