CHALMERS CHURCH.

ATTRACTIVE BAZAAR. There was a very satisfactory attendance at Chalmers. Sunday School yesterday afternoon, when a bazaar, organised by the various church organisations, in aid of church funds, was opened by the Mayor (Mr G. J. Wallace). That no .liljle time and thought iiad been expended m the organising of the bazaar was apparent in well-stocked stalls, covering a wide range of useful and dainty articles. With a keen and energetic band of workers ', in /attendance, the goods oifered found a ready sale,, and at every •stall good business was reported, both in the afternoon and evening. A number of games were also held, and added considerably to the attractions of tho bazaar.

In calling upon tho Mayor to officially open tho bazaar, the Rev. B. Gladstone’-Hughes said it gave them very great pleasure to have Mr Wallace present that afternoon. 'As-they all wero aware, the Mayor was a very busy man, and his assistance was therefore all tho more appreciated. However, ho felt sure that with his visit Mi: Wallace would enjoy a little relaxation from tho cares of office, and some relief iroin carping criticism. (Applause.) Mr Wallace said that among his civic duties it always gave him great pleasure to do whatever ho could to assist churches of any denomination' in their work. He greatly admired all those who devoted so much tiiiio to church work, and felt that apart from the linancial results of such functions, a grea't deal of good was accomplished in bringing members of congregations more closely together. in declaring the bazaar open, Mr Wallace expressed the. most sanguine hopes of its promoters would be greatly, exceeded. (Applause.)Those in charge of tho various stalls wero as follows: —Guild stall, Mesdames Pike and Grant: sweets, Mesdames Kcmshed, Reid, and Bible Class girls; novelty, Mesdames Duncan, Cleland, and Crerar; produce, Sunday School, teachers; cake stall, week night Bible Class; baking competition, Mrs Mcllroy; tea rooms, Mrs Grant; games, Bible Class boys. A pleasing feature hist night was the splendid music discoursed by Mr B. A. DoLatour’s very capable orchestra. Tho bazaar will bo continued to-day and to-night.
