LEAGUE TEAM IN ENGLAND. DEFEAT OF YORK. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, October 6. The New Zealand League team defeated York by 19 to 11. 1 The New Zealand team was Gregory, Parises, IKirwin. Sanders. Gardiner, Webb, Hall, Carroll, Herring, Henry, Thomas. Peterson and Avery. Thus there were six changes from tho test thirteen. The New Zealanders scored five goals and three tries, and York one goal and three tries. A great feature of the game was Gardiner’s brilliant kicking. He had onlv five shots, and all were successful. Peterson scored a trv in tbe first half. Tho visitors had a single point : lead fifteen-minutes before time, York proving a stubborn side. It was the visitors’ superior staying power rather than superior football which gave them tbe upper hand. York began to tire, and a great forcing try by Kirwin practically settled the result. Then Gardiner scored a further try for New Zealand. York had the advantage in most the scrummages, but. the visitors were superior in the loose work. They failed to throw the ball about sufficiently, though they tackled well. The best of the New Zealanders were ‘Gregory, Wtebb, Avery and Henry (who is an old York forward).
