FEAR OF BLINDNESS CAUSES D UICIDE. By Telegraph— Pi-bsS Association . AUCKLAND, October 7. A singto man named John Broward aged 60, a retired gardener, committed suicide last night- by hanging himself from a tree m front of his residence, .ile had a strap round his neck, and nppeaml to have climbed to the top oi the fence and jumped off. He sufiered from cataract of the eye, and was threatened with'blindness. An inquest was held concerning the death of Sabastian Hulena (74), who was found injured on the railway lino on Saturday, and died subsequently in hospital. The medical superintendent of the hospital said deceased’s injuries were consistent with having been struck by a train. Mr O’Shea, for t.lio Railway Depm-t,-mont, said he could not understand the driver and fireman of the train which had passed not seeing deceased. His own view was that deceased was not struck by a train, but had walked into it. The Coroner’s verdict was that deceased died from severe internal injuries, caused by accidentally colliding with a train at a crossing. CHILD’S DEATH. By Telearaph—Press Association AUCKLAND, October 6. Found unconscious on tho road at Northeote this afternoon, June Pearl Taylor, aged six years, died before medical aid arrived. The child was' found by a passer-by, and when a doctor arrived she was dead. The doctor said there was no evidence of the causo of death, there being nothing to show that she was the victim of an accident.
