Yt the wool sales, keen competition saw all the best features of the previous days sales reproduced, ihcic was particularly keen competition for qaulity wools, which ruled firm at late l'atcs. Entries at Addington market today were smaller in the major sections of stock.Pat cattle represented an under supply for butchers’ needs, and there was a jump of about 40/- per head in value for good beef, and up to 35/for medium quality. Fat sheep also sold better, as did store hoggets. Spring lambs and fat pigs were ch.6a.p6r. Store Sheep.—Ewe hoggets sold better than last week by 2/- to 2/G a head, and ewes and lambs were also in brisker demand. The rain over the week-end was the cause of the brighter tone. Good threequar-ter-bred ewe hoggets made 3 2/9 to 35/-, extra good threequarter-bred hoggets 3 8/1, threequarter-bred wether hoggets 22/- to 24/4, halfbred wether hoggets 22/- to 25/6; sound-mouthed tlireequarter-bred ewes with lambs 16/6 (all counted); good aged half-bred ewes with lambs -16/- to 16/1, aged threequarter-bred eWes with lambs 12/- to 15/-. Two and four-toothed threequarter-bred wethers 23/- to 26/-, four, six and eight-tooth half-bred wethers 25/9. Spring lambs were in over supply, 290 being entered. Prices ranged from 21/- to 31/G, or about 9d to ,10d a lb. The bulk of the entry were well grown and prime. Pat Sheep.— The entry consisted of nine'races, about 25 per cent, less than usual. Most of it was very prime. Good wethers and ewes advanced on last week by 1/6 to 2/per head, and medium up to 1/6. Two freezing companies were operating. Extra heavy wethers brought up to 25/-, prime wethers 35/6 to 38/6, medium 32/- to 33/-, light 28/6 to 31/6; extra prime ewes to 37/1, prime 29/- to 33/-, medium 25/6 to 2S/6, light 22/- to 25/-; prime hoggets 28/- to 31/-, medium 24/- to 27/6; prime shorn wethers 27/- to 30/-, medium 24/- to 26/6. Fat Cattle. —There Was a small entry and a keen sale. Good heifer and cow beef and medium steer beef sold at a big advance on last week. An occasional pen or two of heifers made to near 50/- per lOOlbs. Good steer and heifer beef brought 39/to 44/-, heavy beef 36/- to 38/-, good cow 36/- to 39/-, medium beef 33/- to 35/-. Extra heavy bullocks realised up to £2O/7/6, prime heavy steers £l7 to £l9, prime medium weight £ls/10/- to £l7/10/-, medium quality £l2/10/- to £ls; extra prime heifers to £l6/17/6, prime ' £l2/10/- to £l4/10/-, ordinary £9/10/- to £l2; extra prime cows to £l6/2/6, prime £ 11/5/- to £l3/10/-, ordinary £8 to £ll. Vealers. —A small entry of poor quality met a brisk sale. Medium runners made up to £7, calves £4 to £6, small calves 15/- to 30/-. Store Cattle. —A pen of 4-year-old steers made £10; fresh cows to £5/2/6, others 30/- to £3/10/-. Dairy Cows. — Good sorts were better In price than last week by £2 per head. Best second to fourth calverS made £7/10/- to £lO, medium £5 to £7, inferior £2/10/- to £4/10/-; springing heifers £2/15/ti> £5/15/-; aged cows 15/-to £3. Pigs.—. a medium entry met an easier sale. Choppers brought £4 to £4/15/-,- light baconers £4/5/- to £4/15/-, heavy baconers £5 to £6/2/- (average per lb 81d to 9d); porkers 50/- to 74/- (average 9d to lOd). Store Pigs.—There was a good entry and an improved sale resulted. Weaners fetched 22/- to 30/-, stores 35/- to 46/-, large stores 50/- to 64/-, sows in pig up to £7/10/-. BURNSIDE SALE. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, Oct. 6. At Burnside to-day, sheep rose by 1/- per head. Lambs were very dear and the pig market was firm. Fat cattle were cheaper by £l, and store cattle were unaltered. Pat Sheep.—The penning was 1586. The market was composed principally of medium to good wethers, with a fair sprinkling of wellfinished ewes. The sale opened with prices firm at last week’s rates, and they advanced as the sale progressed. There was an all-round rise of 1/i- per head. Extra prime wethers realised 44/G to 48/-, prime heavy 36/- to 39/-, medium 32/- to 35/-, light 29/- to 31/-; prime ewes 32/to. 36/-, medium 29/- to 31/6, others to 28/-. Lambs.—r- The penning comprised eleven races of extra good quality. On account of the, smallness of tho entry, competition was very keen, and prices were much firmer. The lambs realised from 38/- to 48/6. Extra heavy wether mutton brought 5Jd per pound, prime light 6d, prime ewe 4id, aged 4d, ’lamb 1/9. Fat Cattle. —A yarding of 322 ani- ’ mals was equal in quality to any previous entry this season, and consisted chiefly of prime quality bullocks, cows and heifers. Because the yarding was large, competition was not keen. Graziers were bidding for light-weight bullocks, while the town trade and country butchers competed for the balance. Prices all round were easier by about £1 for prime cattle. Prime heavy bullocks made £l7 to £l9, medium £l3/10/- to£l4/10/-, light £lO to £ll/10/-, prime tows and heifers £lO to £l2/10/-, medium £8 to £9, old and inferior £5 to £7/10/-. Extra heavy bullock beef was worth 3 7/6 per lOOlbs, prime light 40/-, prime heifer 33/-, cow and light heifer 25/- to 30/-. Store Cattle. —A yarding of about 200 was composed mainly of cows and heifers. There were only four pens ,of from two to three-year-old medium steers, which sold up to £7/5/- per head. All other classes also sold at last week’s rate. Pigs.—Tho entry numbered 111 fats and 87 stores. Competition was keen for fats, and baconers advanced about 5/-, and porkers by from 2/to, 3/- per head. Stores found a ready sale, high prices being maintained.
