CANTERBURY DEFEATS NELSON. By Te'cxrapb—Press Association NELSON, August 12. In a representative hockey match this afternoon, played on a slippery ground, Canterbury defeated Nelson by four goals to nil. In the first spell the local team had considerably the best of the game, but in the second half tlie visitors were superior. For tho winners goals were scored by Goffey (2), 'Williamson and Bell. SACHS-JOI-INSON SHIELD. By Telegraph—Press Association. WAIROA, August 12. The Wairoa ladies’ representatives hockey team successfully defended the Sachs-Johnson shield here today. There was no score in the first spell, but the defenders had the advantage throughout and shot two goals in tlie second half. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. By Telegraph—Tress Association INVERCARGILL, August 12. Nine entries have been received for the New Zealand ladies’ hockey championship tournament, which commences here on August 2S. The centres which have entered teams are —Ruahine (Dannevirke), Wellington, Canterbury, South Canterbury, Otago, Eastern District (two teams), and Southland (two teams). Strong committees have been formed and a queen carnival arranged to secure funds for entertaining the visitors.
