WORKERS’ COMPENSATION ACT.
IN NEW SOUTH WAI.ES. By Cable —Frees Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY, June 24. A deputation from the Accident Underwriters’ Association of New South Wales waited on the Minister of Labour and Industry (lion. J. 31. Baddelcy), and asked that t'ho operation of the Workers’ Compensation Act should bo postponed tor a period of three months. The deputation contended that tho Act covered cases not previously dealt with, and companies required time to work out equitable premiums, so that too heavy burdens would not be placed on the employers. The Minister promised to make a definite announcement on the subject to-day. A deputation of Labour members suggested to. Mr Duddeley, that msui-aiicn should he a State monopoly. It stated that iL considered the increased premiums charged by private companies excessive. The M’iitiider, in reply, said for some time past he had a committee gathering information about the matter, and as scon as he had anything definite, ho would present it to the caucus.
