COUNCIL AS PLAYERS?
BURGESSES AS AUDIENCE. By Telegraph---Press Association WANGANUI, June 23. An extraordinary request is to bo made, to tho Wanganui City Council as the result of a public meeting tonight. The meeting was called to discuss the Council’s recent decision to increase the rates by £'34,700 for the present year. This decision was the subject of hostile comment at to-night’s meeting, ratepayers describing it as an attempt to discredit the newlyintroduced system of rating on unimproved value. A motion was carried asking the Council to withdraw its decision, also to conduct its next discussion on the question on the Opera House stage with ratepayers as tlio audience. Ratepayers expressed the intention of swarming into the Council Chambers to-night- if the 'request is not acceded to.
