Inquest on Victims.

At the Caulfield railway accident inquest, one witness gave evidence that lie saw the whole accident from the platform. Ho said the speed ol the Uaklcigh train was about sixteen miles an hour, and when brakes " r .?. 10 applied, they reduced it by half. Ihe noise of. the brakes was greater than the actual crash, yet they seemed to be. taking little eflcct on the tram wheels which appeared locked. The train seemed to skid into-the Carrnm train. Visibility was clear, but the ground was wet. Further evidence showed that when the signals were tested after the accident, they operated satislactorily. [While a passenger train front' Melbourne to Carrnm was standing at the station at Caulfield Junction, on May 26, a passenger train from Melbourne to Oaklcigh crashed into it from the rear, telescoping the two end carriages. Three passengers were killed and 60 were injured.]
