PRESENTATION TO MR J. W. STEAD. Before tTle members of the South Island team left for their respective homes, opportunity was embraced to make a presentation to Air J. TV. Stead, who was manager of the team while in Timaru. Air AV. Alihaka (selector) 'spoke briefly, congratulating Air Stead on the, able manner in which he had controlled the team. It was the first time in football history that a Maori team of the South Island had been assembled, and they were proud to be associated with him. Air J. AfaeDonald senr. endorsed the remarks of his fellow selector, and made the presentation. This took the form of a unique silver-mounted ash tray, with the figure of a. Afaori holding a football, in the centre. Air Stead, who was completely taken by surprise, said he felt honoured in being appointed tlifijr manager.
