OBITUARY.

Another old resident of Tomuka passed away at the residence of her son, Air A. Hooper, Burnham, on Tuesday last, m tlie person of All's Sarah Aim Hooper, at me age of 76 years. The lute Airs Hooper was a native' of Gloucestershire, England, where she married in 1871. in 1875, with her husband, she landed at 'I. imam and travelled to Temuka in a- bullock cart, and iiually settled at Winchester, where they lived in one of flic first sod liou-es bui.t there. Alter being burned out they moved to Temuka, and the couple lon ml employment witii the late J. T. AL Hayhurst, at Clifton farm, and with Air AV. G. AspiualJ, at Kynnorsly. Afterwards the family removed to Geraldine and Woodbury, finally returning to Temuka. in the early days of South Canterbury silo did a great deal towards tlie nursing of the sick, visiting numerous homes. Airs Hooper was well known for tier lovable, and quiet disposition, and for her tactful courtesy to all elasses of tlie community. Her husband died in 1917. One of her suns, the late Sergeant William Hooper, served throughout the Great War. He was badly wounded and never quite recovered from the effects of his injuries, passing away at the Timaru Hospital about two years ago.

Tile funeral took place at Tcniuka last Thursday, the bearers beinii Mr T. Gunnion, Mr Guthrie, Mr ,). Watkins, and Mr C. Hooper. The Into Mrs Hooper was a staunch supporter of the Methodist Church, and the services at the erave-sido' were conducted by the Rev. I!. Richards. Amongst the many beautiful wreaths was one from the railway employees at .Burnham.
