BOARDING-HOUSE GUTTED. By Te.e^rapl*—Press Association MARTON, Juno 14. A fire early on Sunday morning gutted the Trocadero hoarding house, an old two storied wooden building at Marton Junction. Seventeen occupants escaped in their night attire unhurt, except Patrick Fogarty (30), a railway employee, who was severely burned on the legs. W. J. Quinn (42), labourer, sustained internal injuries through falling to the ground lrom t’nc top storey. Both arc progressing satisfactorily. The glare of the llames lit the country lor miles around, and hundreds gathered in the vicinity. Tile firemen’s efforts were futile, but they saved an adjoining residence, though it was badly damaged by water. The boarding house, was owned by Mrs Winsch (Palmerston North). BAKERY DAMAGED. By Telegraph—Press Association AVAIROA, June 14. At an early hour yesterday .morning a fire broke out in Sheehan’s bakery premises, which were gutted. Owing to the splendid new water pressure, Mill’s big sample rooms were only .slightly damaged. The Briende made a wonderful save of over £SOOO worth of travellers’ samples in the building at the time, the stocks and building being liardiv damaged. The insurance was £IO,OOO.
